GUITARCHESTRA

A unique celebration of popular culture’s obsession with the electric guitar.

GUITARCHESTRA was an inter-generational electric guitar / bass ensemble and series of concert outcomes as part of the 2021 Adelaide Guitar Festival.

Conceived by SA composer Matthew Timmis, and creatively produced by OSCA, GUITARCHESTRA generated an unprecedented opportunity for an incredibly diverse range of 60 amateur and semi-professional guitarists aged from 12 to 80 to participate in an inclusive creation process and  unique performances of new experimental music.

This project is the latest in a series of large-scale, community-based works by Matthew that have included a re-scoring of the classic silent film Nosferatu for multiple players and Car-cophony, a performance piece for 12 cars, auto enthusiasts and their stereos which appeared at the 2013 Sydney Festival.
